Welcome to the Division of Health Systems Science at Mahidol University's Ramathibodi Medical School. Our division is committed to pioneering advancements in sustainable health systems development through rigorous research and innovative educational approaches. We strive to address the complexities of healthcare delivery systems and policy-making process, leveraging the unique strengths of our multidisciplinary team to foster health equity and improve care quality, locally and globally.

At the core of our mission is integrating systems thinking and complexity sciences, enabling us to develop resilient health systems that meet contemporary and future challenges. Our faculty, including experts in preventive medicine and multidisciplinary academic areas of health policy and systems research, collaborate on interdisciplinary research that bridges the gap between theory and practice. We are dedicated to training the next generation of physicians, health systems scientists and global health leaders, equipping them with the tools to transform healthcare landscapes.

          Dr. Leerapan is a board-certified preventive medicine physician, health policy and systems researcher, and currently associate professor at Mahidol University’s Ramathibodi Medical School. His research focuses on applying complexity sciences in health systems governance to advance healthcare quality and health equity. His academic work aims to support health systems strengthening through systems thinking methodologies such as system dynamics modeling and group modeling building. His recent work includes a design of integrated patient journeys for chronically ill patients in primary care settings and a system dynamics modeling for national health workforce planning. He also serves on organizational and national committees, including the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Prince Mahidol Award Foundation under the Royal Patronage. Borwornsom obtained his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, a Master's degree in Health Policy and Management from Harvard University, and a PhD in Health Systems Research from the University of Minnesota

Phanuwich Kaewkamjornchai, M.D.
 
          Dr. Kaewkamjonchai is a preventive medicine physician and health policy and systems researcher. He worked as a general practitioner who responsible for management and quality development in a 30-bed community hospital in Lopburi Province, where he encountered several complex issues not easily solvable, leading him to study systems thinking for problem-solving. He also has experience as a workshop facilitator helping policymakers and stakeholders apply systems thinking in various health system contexts, such as patient safety development, chronic care management, and development of primary health care systems. Phanuwich received his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, diploma on preventive medicine (specialized in public health) and is currently a PhD Candidate in Health Systems Science at Mahidol University.

Thanitsara Rittiphairoj, M.D., M.P.H.
 
          Dr. Rittiphairoj is a teaching assistant at Mahidol University’s Ramathibodi Medical School. She is a health policy and systems researcher with an extensive experience in systematic review and meta-analysis methodologies. Her current research focuses on synthesizing trustworthy evidence for decision-making and understanding and addressing the complexity of health service delivery challenges in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), focusing on preventive and rehabilitative health service systems for non-communicable diseases. Thanitsara obtained her medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, a Master's in Public Health from Harvard University, and is currently a PhD Candidate in Health Systems at Johns Hopkins University. She was also a recipient of the prestigious Prince Mahidol Award for Youth Program Scholarship in 2017.
