Auckland, New Zealand – June 1-2, 2025 – A high-level delegation from Mahidol University, led by Professor Piyamitr Sritara, M.D., President of Mahidol University, along with H.E. Mr. Waravuth Pouapinya, Ambassador of Thailand to Wellington , and Associate Professor Dr. Nopraenue Sajjarax Dhirathiti, Ph.D., Vice President for Global Partnerships and University Council of Mahidol University, concluded a successful two-day visit to New Zealand to foster medical and public health cooperation.
On June 1, 2025, the delegation from Mahidol University which included a team of medical experts from Ramathibodi Hospital; Assistant Professor Suchin Worawichawong, M.D., Deputy Dean for International Relations; Assoc. Prof. Chalermpong Chatdokmaiprai, M.D, Head of the Department of Surgery; Assoc. Prof. Sompol Phueamphongkosol, M.D., Lecturer, Department of Surgery; Assoc. Prof. Teerapat Yingchoncharoen, M.D., Lecturer, Department of Internal Medicine; Asst. Prof. Pongsasit Singhatat, M.D., Lecturer, Department of Surgery, and Asst. Prof. Surakiat Leelasithorn, M.D., Lecturer, Department of Internal Medicine, met with Hon. Simeon Brown, New Zealand Minister of Health, and Dr. Carlos Cheung, Member of Parliament for Mt. Roskill, Auckland. Discussions focused on enhancing collaboration in medicine and public health between Thailand and New Zealand, particularly with three leading New Zealand universities: the University of Auckland, the University of Otago, and the New Zealand University of Science and Technology. Key topics included public health policy, community health, and the development of future capacity-building projects.
On the same day, Mahidol University executives also had the honor of meeting with Professor Emeritus Dr. Harvey D. White of the University of Auckland, who is also the Director of The Green Lane Cardiovascular Research Unit and a recipient of the Prince Mahidol Award in 1998. Their exchange of views centered on public health policies and the evolution of New Zealand's healthcare system.
Additionally, the medical team from Ramathibodi Hospital provided valuable medical consultation services to Thai monks and the Thai community in Auckland at Wat Yan Pra Teep, collaborating with local Thai medical networks to promote the well-being of Thais living abroad.
The visit culminated on June 2, 2025, with Ambassador Waravuth Pouapinya leading the Mahidol delegation for a follow-up meeting with Hon. Simeon Brown, who also serves as Minister for State Owned Enterprises and Minister for Auckland Issues (MP for Pakuranga, Auckland), and Dr. Carlos Cheung. This reinforced the commitment to medical and public health cooperation between Thailand and New Zealand, emphasizing collaboration with the University of Auckland, the University of Otago, and Auckland University of Technology (AUT). Discussions further explored public health policy, community health, the development of New Zealand's healthcare system, and future opportunities for capacity-building projects between the two nations.

Simeon Brown รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงสาธารณสุขนิวซีแลนด์ และ Dr. Carlos Cheung สมาชิกสภาผู้แทนราษฎร เขต Mt. Roskill นครโอ๊คแลนด์ เพื่อส่งเสริมความร่วมมือด้านการแพทย์และสาธารณสุขระหว่างประเทศไทยและนิวซีแลนด์ โดยมีมหาวิทยาลัยหลัก 3 แห่งของประเทศ ได้แก่ University of Auckland, University of Otago และ New Zealand University of Science and Technology อีกทั้ง ได้แลกเปลี่ยนทัศนะในเรื่องนโยบายสาธารณสุข การสาธารณสุขชุมชน และการพัฒนาโครงการความเสริมสร้างศักยภาพ (Capacity Building) ร่วมกันในอนาคต
ในโอกาสเดียวกัน คณะผู้บริหารมหาวิทยาลัยมหิดลยังได้เข้าพบ Prof. Dr. Harvey D White ศาสตราจารย์เกียรติคุณแห่ง University of Auckland และ Director of The Green Lane Cardiovascular Research Unit, Te Toka Tumai Auckland, Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand ผู้ได้รับรางวัลสมเด็จเจ้าฟ้ามหิดล (PMAC) ปี 1998 เพื่อแลกเปลี่ยนมุมมองเกี่ยวกับนโยบายสาธารณสุข และการพัฒนาระบบบริการสุขภาพของนิวซีแลนด์
นอกจากนี้ ทีมแพทย์จากคณะแพทยศาสตร์โรงพยาบาลรามาธิบดี ยังได้ให้คำปรึกษาทางการแพทย์แก่พระภิกษุสงฆ์และชุมชนชาวไทยในนครโอ๊คแลนด์ ณ วัดญาณประทีบ ประเทศนิวซีแลนด์ ร่วมกับเครือข่ายแพทย์ไทยในพื้นที่ เพื่อส่งเสริมสุขภาวะและความเป็นอยู่ที่ดีของคนไทยในต่างแดน
ต่อมา ในวันที่ 2 มิถุนายน 2568 ฯพณฯ นายวราวุธ ภู่อภิญญา เอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงเวลลิงตัน ได้นำคณะผู้แทนจากมหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล เข้าเยี่ยมคารวะและหารือกับ Hon. Simeon Brown รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงสาธารณสุขนิวซีแลนด์ รัฐมนตรีด้านรัฐวิสาหกิจและรัฐมนตรีประจำภูมิภาคโอ๊คแลนด์ (สส. เขต Pakuranga นครโอ๊คแลนด์) และ Dr. Carlos Cheung สส. เขต Mt. Roskill นครโอ๊คแลนด์ เพื่อส่งเสริมความร่วมมือด้านการแพทย์และการสาธารณสุขระหว่างไทยกับนิวซีแลนด์ โดยเฉพาะกับมหาวิทยาลัยหลัก ๓ แห่งของนิวซีแลนด์ ได้แก่ University of Auckland, University of Otago และ Auckland University of Technology (AUT) อีกทั้งได้แลกเปลี่ยนทัศนะเกี่ยวกับนโยบายสาธารณสุข การสาธารณสุขชุมชน การพัฒนาระบบบริการสุขภาพของนิวซีแลนด์ และโอกาสในการพัฒนาโครงการส่งเสริมศักยภาพ (Capacity Building) ระหว่างไทยกับนิวซีแลนด์
