10th ASEAN Medical Deans’ Summit

Between September 3 – 4, 2021, the International University, Cambodia, hosted the “10th ASEAN Medical Deans’ Summit” via the zoom online platform in spite of ​the heavy pandemic of the COVID-19 in order to promote collaboration among leading medical schools in the ASEAN region, to leverage medical education and health systems towards international excellence.
The virtual online event on the 1st day started on September 3, 2021, with an opening remark delivered by the President of ASEAN Medical School Network, Prof. Chong Yap Seng, Dean of NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Singapore, following by the academic discussions on 4 themes including: “Protection of IP for Online Materials”, “Social Media Navigation/Fake News from Educators’ Perspective”, “Volunteerism Practices Being Adapted in Response to Pandemic”, and “Student Mobility”. On this occasion, Asst. Prof. Pongtong Puranitee, MD, MHPE, Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Education, attended the event as the representative of the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University.
Next, on September 4, 2021, the event started with welcomes by Assoc. Prof. Em Samney, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, International University, Cambodia, before continuing with the discussions are on the themes including: “Continual Training of Medical Students in the Midst of COVID Measures” and “COVID Research That Each Institution Has Developed”. Prof.Suradej Hongeng, Deputy Dean for Research; as the representative of the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, provided his special lecture regarding "Thai Herbs in COVID-19 Research" in the session of “COVID Research That Each Institution Has Developed”.
The 2 day virtual ASEAN Medical Deans’ Summit ended with the session of ASEAN Medical Schools Network Board Meeting which, at the end of the session, allowed the representing medical students to present their idea on "ASEAN Medical Students Dialogue Brainstorming: Benefit and challenges of an ASEAN Medical School Network Student Chapter". Representing medical students from Ramathibodi including Ms.Chawisa Teansue and Ms.Panattaphorn Tangguay also attended this session.
