Academic Visit for the Reviewers of the Accreditation Unit of the Sri Lanka Medical Council

On June 6th, 2024, a significant event took place at the Viriyanon Conference Room located in the Department of Family Medicine, the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University. Asst. Prof. Saipin Hathirat, M.D., who serves as the Head of the Department, was joined by esteemed colleagues including Prof. Samart Pakakasama, M.D., Deputy Dean for Education; Asst. Prof. Suchin Worawichawong, M.D., Deputy Dean for International Relations; Asst. Prof. Dr. Vijj Kasemsup, M.D., Head of the Department of Community Medicine; and Assoc. Prof. Kittiphon Nagaviroj, M.D., Deputy Head of the Department of Family Medicine.The purpose of this gathering was to host a delegation from the Accreditation Unit of the Sri Lanka Medical Council, led by Prof. Madawa Chandratilake, Professor of Medical Education, along with Prof. Shamini Prathapan, Prof. Syamalee Samaranayaka, Prof. C.A. Gnanathasan, Prof. Anuradhani Kasturiratne, and Ms. Nadeeka Wijedasa, the Secretary of the Accreditation Unit.


During the visit, various sessions were conducted starting with an introduction of the visitors and the objectives of their visit. This was followed by an overview of the Department of Family Medicine at Ramathibodi Hospital. The delegation then proceeded to the site visit, observing the teaching activities in the outpatient department for medical students and family medicine residents. They also had the opportunity to explore into topics such as the undergraduate medical curriculum, accreditation processes, teaching methodologies, and evaluation methods in family medicine residency training, as well as the teaching and learning practices in Community Medicine and Family Medicine.
