Philosophy of the Program:
Doctor of Philosophy Program in Nursing Science (International Program) produces the PhD graduates with advanced knowledge and high competency in nursing and advanced research; self-directed learning to develop new knowledge responsive to health needs; profound comprehension of principle and theories in nursing science; creativity and leadership in academics and nursing; integrating information technology into nursing education and research with concerns of ethics, codes of professional conduct, and cultural diversity.
Objective:
Upon the completion of the program, the students will be:
1. effective nursing scholars with expertise and professional ethics;
2. able to produce high quality and ethical scientific research that contributes to the advancement of nursing and health;
3.able to provide creative guidelines to improve health and better life of people;
4. able to demonstrate good human relationship and accountability;
5. able to disseminate, transmit, and exchange knowledge and utilize technology effectively with others both nationally and internationally
Program Curriculum:
There are two plans for a candidate to select for submitting application:
Plan 1.1 → | At least 48 credits - Dissertation 48 credits Total 48 credits |
Plan 2.1 → | At least 52 credits 1. Required courses 12 credits 2. Elective courses no less than 4 credits 3. Dissertation 36 credits Total 52 credits |
Time to Apply for Admission:
Applicants can apply for admission all year round. The committee will consider applications twice a year according to the timeline of Faculty of Graduate Studies.
Admission Requirements:
1. Candidate must hold a Master Degree in Nursing with GPAX no less than 3.50 on a 4.00 scale;
2. Currently hold an RN license in his or her own country;
3. Pass English proficiency examination arranged by the Faculty of Graduate Studies, or other institutions certified by the Faculty of Graduate Studies, or have a TOEFL-ITP score at least 500, TOEFL iBT at least 61, or IELTS score of at least 5;
4. Candidate who holds a Master’s degree in related fields should attend at least two courses in nursing (Nursing Theory course at least 2 credits and Advanced Clinical Nursing course at least 2 credits) and presents the proof of attending those courses with the application;
5. Shows a proof of research publication work that must not be part of the candidate’s own graduate studies:
5.1 Plan 1.1 Two first author research publications: at least one being published in the international peer-reviewed journal and at least one in the national peer-reviewed journal
5.2 Plan 2.1 One research publication in the peer-reviewed journal
6. Other exceptions may be considered by the Program Administrative Committee and the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
