Ramathibodi School of Nursing in collaboration with the Thai Nurses Society for People with Dementia and the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association of Thailand, organized an online academic conference titled Toward Standard of Dementia Care

 
 
 
 

Ramathibodi School of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, in collaboration with the Thai Nurses Society for People with Dementia and the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association of Thailand, organized an online academic conference titled “Toward Standard of Dementia Care” from November 28 to 29, 2024.

On November 28, 2024, Associate Professor Dr. Suchira Chaiviboontham, Deputy Director for Administration, Ramathibodi School of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, presided over the event and delivered an opening speech, along with Associate Professor Supani Senadisai, Chairperson of Thai Nurses Society for People with Dementia, Member of the executive board of Ramathibodi School of Nursing, and Former head of the department of nursing, as speaker and introducer of Thai Nurses Society for People with Dementia.

On this occasion, Assistant Professor Dr. Sirintorn Chansirikarnjana from the Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, and APN Tipanetr Ngamkala from the Nursing Services Division, Ramathibodi Hospital, gave a lecture titled “Toward International Standard of Care and Dementia Care in Thailand.” Instructor Dr. Aisawan Petchlorlian, Assistant Dean for Educational Innovation and Informatics from Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, and Instructor Dr. Rapas Samalapa from Geriatric Excellence Center, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, Thai Red Cross Society, gave a lecture titled “What is Dementia? : How to Approach, Diagnose Pharmacological Management.” Assistant Professor Dr. Orapitchaya Sriwannopas, Head of Geriatric, Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, and Instructor Pornsiri Phugsachart from the Division of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing, Ramathibodi School of Nursing, gave a lecture titled “Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD) Management: Pharmacological Management, Non-Pharmacological Management.” Ms. Jarunee Witayajak, Clinical Psychologist from the Medical Service Support Team, Department of Psychiatry (PARAMEDIC for Psychosocial Support), gave a lecture titled “Assessment and Screening Tool for Dementia.”

The event aimed to provide comprehensive knowledge of dementia care, covering all dimensions, including treating dementia with and without medication. It focused on the use of assessment and screening tools, the management of comorbid conditions in dementia patients, and the importance of planning and supporting both patients and their families. Additionally, the program emphasized the development of dementia-friendly communities in Thailand.

The conference was attended by registered nurses, advanced practice nurses, and nurse educators from public and private sector hospitals and educational institutions across Thailand.
