On January 16, 2025, in Meeting Room No. 1 at the Dean's office on the 5th floor of the Administrative Building, Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, Clinical Professor Artit Ungkanont, M.D., the Dean, along with Assistant Professor Suchin Worawichawong, M.D., the Deputy Dean for International Relations, and representatives from the Department of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Radiology, led by Associate Professor Sith Phongkitkarun, M.D., Head of the Department, warmly welcomed delegates from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The delegation was headed by Ms. Najat Mokhtar, Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications, accompanied by Ms. Noura El-Haj, Programme and Partnership Officer, and Mr. Matteo Barbarino, a Nuclear Fusion Physicist. Joining the esteemed IAEA representatives were members of the Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP) from Thailand, including Mr. Kitkawin Aramrun, Director of the Strategy and Planning Division, along with Ms. Chonrithon Boonprasop and Ms. Thanchanok Poonchai, International Relations Officers. Following the meeting, the distinguished IAEA delegates were led on a site visit to the Division of Diagnostic Radiology, which was followed by visits to the Division of Nuclear Medicine and the Advanced Diagnostic Imaging Center (AIMC).
The primary aim of this meeting was to engage in collaborative discussions regarding the future plans of the IAEA Anchor Centre. Since the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital has been designated as an IAEA Anchor Centre, reinforcing its role as a pivotal institution in the application of nuclear science and technology for healthcare. This prestigious appointment highlights Ramathibodi's commitment to advancing medical practices through the responsible use of nuclear technologies, promoting capacity-building, research, and international collaboration in diagnostic and therapeutic applications. As an academic medical center affiliated with Mahidol University, Ramathibodi aims to enhance training and improve patient care by integrating cutting-edge innovations in nuclear medicine and radiation therapy, solidifying its status as a leader in the field.
