Encouraging Tobacco-free Communities

Project Name Encouraging Tobacco-free Communities
Background and Significance The use of tobacco products is a threat to public health on a global scale, as 8 million lives worldwide are lost to tobacco-related causes each year. Therefore, both the public and private sectors have enacted policies to mitigate the use of tobacco products. In the past, activities in preventing the use of tobacco was focused on adjusting behaviors towards smoking, which in turn was not effective, turning smokers back to tobacco use. Several factors towards successful smoking cessation involve access to healthcare workers, family, healthcare volunteers, and community. Thus, a smoking cessation program that centers the invidual, family, and community is neccessary for continuous benefit towards a tobacco-free community. In these efforts, we aim to create a model community for sustained effort towards the prevention of tobacco use and return to tobacco use.
