7. Course Description: The elective rotation in Pediatrics Pulmonology is open to medical students and physicians interested in pathophysiology and respiratory diseases.

8. Objectives:

1)  Diagnose, investigate, and manage common pediatric pulmonology problems such as respiratory tract infections, congenital malformations, obstructive sleep apnea, foreign body aspiration, bronchiectasis, apnea

2)  Describe asthma pathogenesis, fundamentals of diagnostic testing for asthma, and learn fundamentals of asthma management

3)  Describe the clinical and physical evaluation of the respiratory system

4)  Understand the respiratory monitoring including pulse oximeter, blood gases determination, x-ray interpretation, pulmonary function test, peak flow meter

5)  Define, evaluate and diagnose emergency in respiratory problems, including respiratory failure, pneumothorax, hemoptysis, airway obstruction, foreign body aspiration

6)  Understand the respiratory care including oxygen and humidify, aerosol therapy, the inhalation device
