7. Course Description:  The elective rotation in Pediatric Hematology and Oncology is opened to medical students and physicians interested in Pediatric hematology and oncology, as well as bone marrow transplantatio

8. Objectives:

  • Describe normal values of hematology laboratory investigations according to child age, such as hemoglobin, hematocrit, mean corpuscular volume, white blood cell count, hemostasis
  • Interpret abnormality of hematology laboratory investigations, including peripheral blood,bone marrow smear and hemostasis testing.
  • Diagnose, investigate, and manage common pediatric hematology and oncology problems such as iron deficiency anemia, thalassemia/hemoglobinopathies, idiopathic thrombocytopenia, hemophilia, and acute lymphoblastic leukemia
  • Understand the principle of bone marrow transplantation
