Rays and radioactive substances have been used in medicine for a century. According to how they are used, we can classify them into 3 groups: 1. Radiotherapy – treating cancer by radiation or implantation, e.g., gamma ray, cobalt-60 2. Nuclear Medicine – diagnosing, e.g., detecting gamma ray from injected radioactive substance, and treating cancer, e.g., drinking Iodine-131 to destroy thyroid cancer 3. Diagnostic Radiology – diagnosing disease or abnormality by using X-ray machine, CT scanner, MRI scanner. |
