Coronary Artery Imaging

Coronary artery disease often comes unannounced and once the symptom present itself, immediate intervention is usually required. Symptoms include pain, discomfort, pressure, tightness, numbness, or burning sensation in your chest, arms, shoulders, back, upper abdomen, or jaw. Physicians will then perform percutaneous coronary intervention to find the exact location of the stenosis and widen the affected vessel. Surgery may be needed.

There are several risk factors influencing the onset of such abnormality such as increasing age, obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, as well as smoking. Faculty of Medicine, Ramathibodi Hospital has developed a self-assessment scoring system for how likely one would develop coronary artery disease. The assessment, also known as Thai Cardiovascular Risk Score, can be found at med.mahidol.ac.th/cardio_vascular_risk

Advanced Diagnostic Imaging Center (AIMC) has employed the use of CT scan (CTA Coronary) to allow for the 3-dimensional visualization of the coronary artery in conjunction with intravenous injection of contrast agent. This leads to enhanced diagnostic accuracy of coronary artery conditions for early preventive measures.

For those at risk, the recommended course of action is to consult physicians at Cardiovascular & Metabolic Center or Family Medicine, Ramathibodi Hospital. Physicians may then refer for CTA Coronary. Request form is available at AIMC.mahidol.ac.th
