History of Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery Division, Department of Surgery, Ramathibodi Hospital.
Ramathibodi hospital, one of the leaders of medical school in Thailand, was established in 1969. Department of surgery was also established at that time to provide medical service and well trained surgeons to serve all Thais. Over the past decade, our country has developed dramatically in many issues, particularly health care system that make Thais live longer and have better quality of life. On the other hand, the burden of taking care patients have grew up rapidly as well as the development of advance knowledge of diseases and technology for providing treatment to patients, so the experts in such fields of disease was in need. To cope with that problem, Division of general surgery was broken down into 5 organ specific divisions in 2009 so the division of Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary surgery was born at that time with the philosophy and commitment of providing the world standard treatment to all patients and developing of advance medical knowledge, as well as providing well trained Surgeons to serve Thais all over the country.
Objectives of Division of Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary surgery
1) Provide effective and advance treatment for complex diseases, including open, minimally invasive, endoscopic as well as robotic surgery. Work together the medical oncologist, radiologist and interventionist to form multidisciplinary team to provide the best treatment to patients.
2) Train well trained physicians and general surgeons, according to standard of the medical council of Thailand and the Royal college of surgeon of Thailand, respectively, to serve all people in our country.
3) To be an institute for training Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary surgeon in the future.
4) Develop new medical knowledge in field of Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary surgery.
