Research area

Our research is focused on a molecule, called eEF1A2 (translation elongation factor 1A2), that is needed for the survival of neurons. When eEF1A2 is absent in a cell model of Parkinson’s disease, it causes neuronal cell death. Moreover, eEF1A2 is involved in a whole range of diseases, from cancer to neurodegeneration. Our research areas include:

  • Protective role of eEF1A2 in neurodegenerative diseases e.g. Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease
  • Role of eEF1A2 in neuronal development at a cellular level
  • Protective effects of herbal extracts or other substances in cellular models for neurodegenerative diseases
  • SH-SY5Y cell model for neurotoxicity studies.
